Ditch the premade packets of ranch for this fantastic homemade ranch seasoning so that you know precisely what is inside. Oh, and it’s dairy-free!
Why from scratch? It’s just ranch powder.
My children love ranch seasoning on so many things. I have been trying to make more things from scratch for several reasons.
- So that I know what is in things and the quality of food my family is eating.
- To save money and be able to purchase supplies in bulk.
- To know how old the supplies are that my family is using. Does it make anyone else nervous to think about how long items sit on the store shelves?
Supplies that you will need for your ranch powder.
- Mason jar.
- Measuring spoons.
- Ingredients from the recipe below.
- A shaker jar to put the finished product in.
Our budget is tight, being a family of 6 on a single income. Hence, I can ensure my family receives the best quality food for the least amount of money by purchasing higher-quality ingredients and putting more effort into preparation. Azure Standard has the best prices and quality for our family. In our rural community, there are few brick-and-mortar options to purchase locally.
I purchase bulk sizes of the majority of our spices and store them in a cool and dark cupboard in an airtight container. Storing them in this way extends their shelf life.
Putting the homemade ranch powder all together.
Making this homemade ranch powder could not be more simple. I start by getting all the bulk ingredients from the cupboard and making sure I have enough of everything. Using a clean quart-size mason jar, I layer each of the spices into the jar. I love how they look before you mix them all together.
Side note: this is also a great activity to have kids help with. They can work on their measurement skills and counting with all the teaspoons. And I’ve never met a kid who isn’t excited to eat something at the dinner table that they helped make!
