Hello! Welcome to Creating Our Homestead. Glad to have you here! My name is Shawnita, and as a mother to four kids, a wife to an incredibly supportive husband, and a curator of our handmade life, I’m excited to share my experiences with you.
I spent my childhood in rural Eastern Oregon and settled in rural Eastern Washington, not too far away. Our family is currently in the process of rebuilding a hundred-year-old ranch to make it our homestead. On this property, we have undertaken various projects to create a comfortable and self-sustaining lifestyle. We raise chickens, pigs, beef, and dairy cows while learning to cultivate our garden.
Fun facts about me:
- While pregnant with our son, I finished my bachelor’s degree.
- Brian and I are first-generation homesteaders; I grew up in a (small) town with no farm animals.
- You will always find me with a cup of coffee.
- We are accidental foster parents.
- My favorite pizza involves zucchini.
- I love notebooks and planners. Really, anything that involves writing a list and checking it off.
